ACORN Renters Union, Sowing the Seeds of Community Organising

There is a housing crisis in the UK, property is one of the remaining safe assets for capital investment, bouyed by the buy to let market and council house sell off. Prices keep rising while our wages are falling. The promise of the wage allowing the working class to own their own house is dead and in its place we are seeing an expansion of the private rented housing market. In conjunction with this our communities have been stripped, our assets and community centres sold long ago in th harsh years of austerity. What is to be done? ACORN tenants union, emerging out of the ACORN movement that began in America in the 1970’s has tried and tested methods for community organising, since it arrived in the UK in 2015 it has gone from strength to strength and has both served to resist against the conditions of private rented housing and organise and unite our communities.
